On November 8th, the Permanent Observer of the Order of Malta to the United Nations in New York Paul Beresford-Hill and the Permanent Representative of the Order of Malta to the African Union Commission Michael P. Murphy, KM, held a reception in honor of the former Executive Director of the World Food Programme David M. Beasley.<\/p>\n
During the reception, Ambassador Beresford-Hill and Ambassador Murphy presented Ambassador Beasley with the Order of Malta Grand Cross Pro Merito Melitensi Award. The award was given in recognition of his humanitarian activities, particularly his leadership of the World Food Programme which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.<\/p>\n
The Grand Cross Pro Merito Melitensi is awarded sparingly and, among other American recipients, are George W.
