Rhodes and of Malta
A meeting between the Permanent Representative of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Ambassador Michael Murphy, Chargé d’Affairs of the Order to Ethiopia, Merha Agonafer, and the Ambassador of Burundi HE Willy Nyamitwe, was conducted in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. Both parties expressed a mutual commitment to establishing diplomatic relations between their respective countries. As an initial step, draft protocols were exchanged and timelines established with the goal of concluding at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York in September.
This morning, Mr. Merha Agonafer, Deputy Head of Mission to the African Union presented a delegation of Ethiopian Bishops to visit the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta at the Grand Chancery in Rome. His Eminence Berhaneyesus Cardinal Souraphiel, CM, Archbishop of Addis Ababa, led the delegation. He was accompanied by: Bishop Muse Gebregeyorgis Emeritus bishop of Eparchy of Emdibir, Bishop Markos Gebremedhin Bishop Of Vicariate Jimma Bonga., Bishop Seyum Franso of Vicariate Hossana and Rev. Tesfaye Tadesse Superior General of Congregation of Comboni Fathers. Substantive talks on the collaboration of the Order of Malta and the Catholic Church in Ethiopia were held and both sides look forward to fulfilling the Church's mission to serve the sick and the poor.
The Ambassador met His Excellency Raila Amolo Odinga, Former Prime Minister of Kenya and current candidate for Chairman of the African Union Commission.
Mr. Merha Agonafer, Deputy Head of the Order of Malta Mission to the African Union participated in an intellectual retreat for Catholic prelates from across sub-Saharan Africa, on 28-29 May (2024) at the Sheraton Addis in the capital city of Ethiopia.
On 14 April, the Ambassador accompanied HE Ambassador Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, Ambassador of the Order to Kenya, on a pilgrimage visit to the Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians located at the Upper Hill section of Nairobi, Kenya.
The Ambassador attended the inaugural White Cross Ball of the Order of Malta Companions of Kenya in Nairobi.
As part of his official visit to South Sudan, the Ambassador was pleased to pay a visit to the Women Promotion Center in Juba and receive a demonstration of the fine work they are doing at the African Indigenous Women Empowerment (AIWE) project.
In support of the official visit of Dr. Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to South Sudan, Michael P. Murphy, KM, Permanent Representative to the African Union undertook a visit to Dr. James Pitia Morgan, PhD., Mister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Republic of South Sudan.
In support of the official visit of HE Dr. Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to South Sudan, HE Michael P. Murphy, KM, Permanent Representative to the African Union undertook an Official visit to South Sudan from 10-12 April.
