The Permanent Representation of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the African Union Commission, represented by the newly appointed Representation led by Ambassador Murphy, was duly represented at the AU Summit. The First Secretary of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the African Union Commission (AUC), Mr. Merhatsidik Ayele attended meetings and side events throughout the Summit period. More specifically Mr. Merhatsidik was in attendance in two sessions critical to the Representation. The first, the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Union, held between February 14 and 15, 2024, is composed of 54 African Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of which 48 attended. Subsequently, between February 17 and 18, 2024, attended the 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, held for heads of state.

Throughout the Summit, Representation Staff was able to meet with 4 heads of state, over 20 ministers, regional leaders, high official delegates, commissioners, and several ambassadors. In interactions we introduced the Order, its objectives, and aspirations. For those with existing familiarity of the Order’s work, further exploration of areas of cooperation were carried out.
